Nothing new...

...other than the usual stuff... work, crochet, read, garden (dang, I need to update that blog). My folks are coming down for an impromptu trip for the long weekend. It will be nice to see them! Also, we're coming up on our 3rd wedding anniversary... in honor of that, here are some third anniversary gift ideas (according to the sites I Googled... which, you know that if it is on the Internet, it has to be true!):

Traditional Gift: Leather
Modern Gift: Crystal/Glass
Flower Gift: Sunflower
Jewellery Gift: Crystal/Pearl Alt: Jade

We have plans to have a nice dinner at Seasons 52. I'm very excited about that! I've been wanting to go there for a while :)

DQ'd Myself

So, tomorrow is the bookclub meeting for Jane Eyre and I haven't read the book. This is the first time that's happened to me. I think this may be the first time that I've started a book and have not finished it! (well, maybe since college - ha!) I gave up on it. So sad. I'm not going to my book club either - I have some work commitments I need to keep. Oh, well. Guess it is a good thing that I didn't read the book anyway.

I've started Pillars of the Earth and it is a little slow so far, but I've admittedly been distracted by the Olympics and haven't been reading much. Wish me luck! It is a REALLY big book :)

Ok, I take it back!!!

Fay is still causing all kinds of trouble. In Orlando, it has been raining since Monday night. No big deal, right? Wrong! Flooding is now a major problem. We have some minor water intrusion in our house, too. Fun.

Buh-bye, Fay!

So, Fay came through Central Florida with a resounding... Nothing! The frustrating thing about that is it is likely to make people complacent about the next storm that comes around, which can be dangerous... Thanks, 24/7 news for the overhype!

Fay is comin' for a visit!

The first named storm to hit FL in quite some time, Fay will be visiting Central Florida around 2:00 PM tomorrow. At least, that is when the eye of the storm should arrive. We've been getting the very outer "bands" of storms all afternoon.

When we got home from work, Chris and I brought in the delicate plants, took down the hanging baskets, flipped over our rocking chairs and secured other plants that were going to ride out the storm outside. We'll both be home tomorrow... we don't really anticipate much damage, but even at a tropical storm, we can experience sustained winds from 39-73 MPH. Here is the latest Fay image published by the National Hurricane Center:

For those not familiar with these images, the black dot with the yellow circle around it shows where the eye of the storm is currently at. The following dots with connecting lines show the computer model path, with the white "cone" showing the area that will be affected by the storm.

Jane Eyre Confession

My book club is meeting one week from tomorrow and I haven't really read the book, Jane Eyre, yet. I'm debating as to whether I should really dig in and start reading it, or if I should just say "the heck with it" and just watch the movie. Seriously, who talks like that anymore? It is really a tough read.

Our next book club selection (for September) was a memoir and the book chosen by the club is Marley and Me by John Grogan. I read that book last summer (I think) but I'm pretty sure I still remember most of the story, or enough to have a book club conversation about it.

October's book club selection is supposed to be a murder/mystery book. I've given our organizer my top few choices for that genre, so we'll see what is picked. Meanwhile, I'll be working on reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Weeee!

Early Start

I have to get up for work tomorrow at about 4:00 AM EST. Awesome.
