Simply Vera is simply delicious!

So, I stopped by Kohls on Saturday and checked out the new Vera Wang brand that just arrived on Friday called "Simply Vera". Ironically, I hadn't watched the Oprah show from Friday yet when I went there. I had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this line for a little while though.

I have to say that I really LOVE it. I tried on many pieces and finally decided on four to purchase. As always, Kohls was doing an additional percentage off (30%), so the clothes were VERY reasonable. I think the best part is that the clothes are cut very generously and flatteringly (is that even a word?). Either way, my curvy figure looked quite nice in the things I tried on!

Here is one of the items I purchased and LOVE:

I finally watched Friday's Oprah episode and it was so refreshing to hear that Vera herself is a size 6/8 (not the waif-like size 0 that you usually think of when you think of designers or models - not that Wang is a model but you get what I mean) and often buys her clothes a size larger so that they are loose and comfortable.

I've read on a message board that I subscribe to that many women have been "dogging" this line because Vera Wang is a "sellout" or whatever. My thought is, good for her! From what the sales clerk told me at the register, they had sold out of many of the items already, and that they were having trouble keeping enough of the sizes and items out on the racks!!

THIRTY THREE caps in two weeks!

We had our second meeting with the group at work who are making caps for the soldiers deployed overseas. In total, there were 33 caps made by the group! I can't believe it! It is just way too cool!!! We also have 4-5 newborn caps. I'm so happy!

Racing for the Cure

Chris and I joined my work departmental team the "IT Pink Patrol" in the Susan G. Komen Race for the cure at Disney's Wide World of Sports. We participated in the 5K Walk/Run (of course we did the "walk", like WE would actually RUN a 5K - ha!). Our Pink Patrol was just shy of $11K, but we beat last year's donations, so that is pretty cool! Chris and I crossed the finishline at a speedy 1 hour, 9 minutes and 9 seconds. Hey, we FINSIHED, that's all that matters!

What really struck me was to read the back of many racer/walker's shirts. Cancer survivors wore pink shirts and pink ballcaps. They also had pink race numbers pinned to the front. On people's backs, they could wear a tag "I'm Racing In Memory of..." or "I'm Racing In Celebration of...".

I think the saddest was a very young girl I saw, maybe 8 years old, wearing a shirt and on her back it said I'm Racing In Memory of My Mommy". It broke my heart. But, then there were PLENTY of ladies who had on pink shirts and the tags on their backs read "I'm Racing In Celebration of ME!!!!". We also had a number of women on the Pink Patrol team who had pink race number tags. People who I never knew had gone through this. I have so much respect for them.

The Pink Patrol team all wore pink wigs. It was really cute.

There was a wig styling contest... Chris won first place, dinner for two at a Disney restaurant!

Stitching Update

I forgot to post about how our first session went at work for the knitting/crochet group. We posted up flyers two days in advance and were also featured in our internal department e-newsletter as well, but only the day beforehand. We were concerned that we didn't have enough time, and weren't expecting many people, but we forged ahead and had the first lunch meeting. Including the four of us who planned the group, we had TWELEVE people show up! I would have been excited to have maybe one or two new people to the group to join, but an additional EIGHT (I'm spelling out the numbers 'cause I think it is more dramatic that way ;) ) was way too cool. Many of the ladies that came already knew how to either knit or crochet. Our second meeting is this coming Wednesday. I'm so excited! I'll post some pictures of the caps I'm making... oh, and our yarn collection bin is apparently full - I need to go and get the yarn from there next week! Yay!

Two Years!! (and one day...)

We just returned from our second anniversary trip. We went to Disney's Vero Beach Resort in Vero Beach, FL. We had a great time. Our friends, Anna and Dimitri joined us for a few days over the long weekend. We're now back in Orlando.

I can't believe that our wedding was two YEARS ago! That seems so long ago but in some ways it seems like it was just yesterday.
