Giving kids the WORLD!

So, today my group at work signed up for a charity/volunteer opportunity at a local charity. That charity is called "Give Kids the World". It is truly a great organization. From the GKTW website:

Give Kids The World Village (GKTW) is a 70-acre, non-profit resort in Central Florida that creates magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. GKTW provides accommodations at its whimsical resort, donated attractions tickets, meals and more for a week-long, cost-free fantasy vacation. With the help of many generous individuals, corporations and partnering wish-granting organizations, Give Kids The World has welcomed more than 85,000 families from all 50 states and over 60 countries.

Today, my team and I did yard work. Our first task was to rid a garden of some rose bushes that weren't doing so well, as well as some juniper bushes. We were able to get the rose bushes up without issue... the juniper bushes, on the other hand, were a completely different story. Those buggers were awful to rip out of the ground! It took a team of 12 of us about 2 hours to pull up about 20 of those suckers. The roots were entangled with each other as well as the magnolia trees that were planted in the same garden (thankfully those guys stayed!). I tell ya, we got a great workout! After that, we "dead headed" two marigold flower gardens. Even though it was up over 90 degrees and we were doing backbreaking work (sorry to complain, but I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day at my regular job!!), it was very rewarding!

Although I was tired, I was able to muster up the energy to do a little shopping afterwards at the best Marshall's in Orlando area near the GKTW Village. I walked out with a number of items... my favorite being a Michael Kors cartigan for $29! Since I was so dirty from the yard work, I didn't try the clothes on in the store... so when I got home and after I had a shower I tried things on, only to find that the previously mentioned sweater was a size too small... the size on the tag apparently didn't match the size on the hanger. UGH! What really sucks is that I passed up another one, in the proper size, but didn't do anything with it because I was "already getting one". Grrr...

Anyway, I have a feeling that I'm going to be sore tomorrow. I think tonight I'll be taking some motrin before going to bed ;)
