Stitching with Heart

I'm so excited! I posted a while ago about doing crochet charity projects. Well, one of the community relations folks at my work contacted me after I emailed them back in MARCH about my idea. Things went quickly from there and the short story is that we've formed a group and are having our first "brown bag" lunch on Wednesday next week! Unfortunately, I don't think that we've had enough time to really get the word out, but the plan is that we'll have bi-weekly or maybe just monthly (still deciding that) meetings. People don't need to know how to knit or crochet yet. They can bring the materials to the lunch and learn during that time also. Additionally, we're going to see about a yarn drive for folks who don't want to participate in the projects but may have extra yarn laying around that they want to get rid of. Our first project will be for soldiers deployed overseas. There are a number of national groups that accept hand knitted and crocheted caps for the soldiers. They wear them for sleeping and other cold areas of bases (maybe machine rooms and whatnot?).

Other options for future projects include:
Caps to the Capital, which focuses on hats for babies in need as well as other local charities that will accept baby hats and blankets for newborns, lapgans for the elderly in old folk's homes, and potentially "comfortgans" which are granny square afghans where the group spends time making the same size granny squares and then one person sews them all together to make one big afghan. Those could be given to the local hospitals or my thought is to maybe get them shipped to the soldiers overseas in hospitals. We could even do local projects for people at my company who have someone that could use a comfortgan.

I'm really hoping this works out. I think it really is a great cause.

Diagnosis: Sinus Infection

So, I went to the doctor today and it is official, contrary to popular belief, I have a sinus infection. As it turns out, a stuffy nose, headache and sore throat are NOT signs of pregnancy ;)

I think I'm getting a cold :(

So I woke up early this morning with a very dry and scratchy throat (more the palate or the back of my throat I guess, but whatever). When I got up a few hours later to start my day, that scratchy throat was still scratchy and now sore, and accompanying it was a stuffy nose and headache. All three are currently working together to make me wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow (if I feel like this). Yuck. It is times like these that I wish I were within driving distance to my parent's house... I love my Mom and Dad's chicken noodle soup!!

...since FL kids go back to school soon, the state has suspended sales tax on clothing. So, of course I had to go shopping - Wahooo! :)

Al Update

The stinky boy is doing really well.

We had a birthday party for Chris on Saturday, and Al needed to coordinate, so we dressed him up with a bandana to match his cast :)



He had his bandages removed on Monday (the "cast" wasn't a hard cast that we would wear, it was the stretchy stuff they use when they bandage you up after you give blood), and the vet said that the wound was healing very nicely, so we were able to bring him home without his dressings and exposed three stitiches.



He's getting around pretty well. When we're not home he's blocked in our downstairs bathroom and hallway before that area. We put down lots of puppy pads for him. When we are home he likes to lie near wherever we are, so we've made sure that there is a beddie nearby us, even if we bring one in from another room. Here is a picture of him today snuggling with Terry, my old teddy bear :)
